My Journey To IIT

Hello people😊

IIT Kharagpur

This is my 1st blog.

I have cleared one of the so called "Toughest Exam" in India IIT-JEE. Lakhs of students give this exam and only a handful of them get a good college and branch. So today I am going to tell you how I cleared my JEE and what were the difficulties I faced, what are solutions to those problems, what books I referred, which books should you refer etc.

So without wasting time let's start:

I was in X std and Boards were yet to start. It was the month of December I guess, and that time I took admission in one of the best known coaching institute for IIT-JEE, I don't need to introduce but still it was ALLEN Jaipur.

I joined the advanced batch (this batch generally starts in November end before boards) I was late by 4-5 days so I wasn't able to understand anything and this was also impacting my Xth so I dropped out the advanced batch after around a week and then I joined the Phase-1 (this was the 1st batch after Xth boards).

Actually this was the 1st time I was in a coaching institute. We had 3 wonderful teachers, 1 for each subject (as obvious😅). I was a very average student but somehow I started developing interest in Physics, Chemistry and Maths even I don't know how, but to your interest like everyone else my interest was also for a week or so. The chapters like Trigonometry, Atomic structure started troubling me whereas in Physics we were dealing with Differentiation and Integration that was of very basic level which any average student can do easily. So I was loosing interest in Chemistry and Maths but Physics was fascinating me. Soon my important chapters like Trigonometry, Quadratic equation, Straight lines, Circle, Atomic structure, Periodic Table were left untouched. I was developing interest in Physical Chemistry as it was just a piece of cake. It was just put the values in formula and get the answers.

One important thing that one of our teachers stated was that the questions which just need the formula are the easiest ones. Now the only problem was how to memorize these formulas. So here is the trick "Don't try to memorize formulas". Yes, the only way to learn a formula is by not trying to learn it but to use it too often that it is stored in your mind forever. My teacher says whenever you practice a question based on a formula, see the formula from your notes even if you remember, just see it. It doesn't matter if you recalled wrong or right formula at that time, but now the actual formula is printed in your memory for a certain time period. Now on every time you do any question based on that formula, see that formula before attempting it and do this for a month. After a month that  formula is in your subconscious memory hence, next time you don't even need to see that formula but your brain will actually tell you what the formula is. And yes this trick was used by me and it works very fine.

So back to our story, I started developing interest in Physical Chemistry and in Physics, I loved doing Mechanics. Its not like I didn't faced any problem in physics, I did and basically all the problems started after NLM i.e., friction and WPE (I did faced problems in projectile motion too so I even left that part🤷‍♂️). But since from beginning Physics was the only part of interest for me so I searched on YouTube and founded a lot of wonderful content related to it specially from an awesome channel called "PhysicsWala". This channel played a very important role in maintaining my interest in physics as this teacher taught in the same way our physics teacher do, therefore I was able to relate with him very well.

Till October it was all fine but then boom,💥 Chickenpox spread in our batch. I was also affected by the same when my KVPY exam was near. Due to chickenpox I had to miss my classes so Ionic Equilibrium in chemistry, RBD in physics and Complex no. in maths were missed out. It was only a week holiday and I missed the last part of ionic eq which was never clear to me ever again😅. RBD is a very important chapter and after the Moment of Inertia, the actual fundamentals of RBD starts. But I missed that part and therefore I couldn't understand RBD as well. Meanwhile in Maths last part of complex numbers was missed (basically locus part and logarithmic part) but I was quite lucky because the part I missed was not generally asked. But still as a preparatory student I felt everything that is being taught in class is important.

But No,  my dear friends please understand that it is not like everything that is taught in class is important but the important part is hidden inside the questions that you practice. Its not how much you know, its about how basic/fundamental knowledge you own.

So Yes RBD was important and hence my Sir arranged another class for me by a helping teacher. Also I took help from YouTube. I don't know why but during that time only the physics content was available on YouTube which I really loved. So yes it was not that clear but basics were clear for that chapter.

In December we were having our last classes for 11th.  I do remember that when Organic was being taught I actually enjoyed it then and last part of Physics was Heat & Thermo which I had no interest in so again I left them. And in Maths it was Parabola, Hyperbola, Ellipse and that was quite interesting.

Finally 11th batch was over. I had a lot of good friends by that time but many of them changed their batches and others left coaching so there were many faces which were never seen again.

I remember an incident which I would like to share. When we all were not able to score in physics during November, we had gone through same situation if you would have seen "KOTA FACTORY" when they were not able to score in Chemistry. There they tried to change their faculty. We also did the same and may be he was already told that one batch wishes to change him as the faculty. Hence, he asked in every batch what's the problem and told us that if any of you face any problem you should consult the faculty first instead of going to authorities and demanding to change the teacher. He added now that almost whole year has passed and you wish to change the faculty, probability is faculty may be changed by next year. But I know you better than any other faculty and I am aware of your weak and strong points. Moreover you all need at least a time of 3 months to adjust with a new teacher. Then he asked us what problems we were facing. Naturally we were quite scared as students, but then a girl put forth the problems and gradually we all did. He patiently listened to all of us and assured that he will try to improve. Surprisingly next day on we all witnessed a lot of changes in him and  he actually became our favorite teacher by the end of 11th.

And here's my personal advice if you have any problem with your faculty do approach them. They will be very helpful and truly speaking the best decision was not to change the faculty. As stated earlier many of my friends changed their batches and centers on the pretext JLN (Allen Jaipur's main campus) is giving better results, even though the teachers denied the fact that studying at main campus will not guarantee you AIR below 500. The teachers explained everyone including us about this problem and proclaimed that this happens with every batch. Its nothing new. They further told us not to do so because that's just a myth. And yes they are right, because if you take example of our center we only had 2 batches and again many of the students left the center in 12th hence we were hardly left with 70-80 students together in both the sections. However, at the main campus there were numerous batches operating at the same time which makes this direct comparison totally futile. Moreover, many of my friends who were performing extremely well here experienced huge decline in their performances there.

On this account, I would advice you if you have a teacher in 11th, let him be your teacher in 12th as well. If you face any problem academically or non-academically, do approach them. In case you  genuinely have a problem with a faculty it's quite understood in the 1st month itself so apply for change at that time only if required.

So this was all about our 11th batch.

In January, we had holidays from Institute as syllabus was over. We were a group of 4-5 students and we all use to do group study at the coaching center itself. Even when we didn't had any classes we used to come to the coaching center, sit and revise together and also do a lot of masti.

I may be not the naughtiest but was a lot. If we all came for 4 hours, then 2 hours surely was for masti. We used to sit in staff room😂 saying we will study and since there's no one in the staff room during class hours so you can understand how mischievous we used to get then.

We revised every topic in those holidays and truly speaking  that time was wonderful. We  never felt overloaded with study pressure. Generally parents at home constantly nudges us all saying we don't study but believe me when you are at coaching center there you get an ambience to study (mahol milta h padai ka) and doing small masti at short intervals relaxes you. Not promoting or something but I believe that it is best place you can study at.

So let's move on to the 12th std.

In Chemistry we began with Organic that seemed quite interesting initially,  in Physics we had Electrostatics whereas in Maths: Relations and Functions. Physics was quite hard this time but going through notes and YouTube clarified most of my doubts. Also you can't even imagine the amount of questions I did for electrostats and I strongly recommend you all to keep your command on electrostats as this is the key for all other chapters in 12th Physics. Chemistry was all fine before SN reactions. But during SN reactions Organic was slowly developing into a nightmare for me thereby degrading my performance. These reactions never made any sense to me still I read my Organic notes probably a 1000 times but all in vain.  As Organic was approaching an end so was my confidence in Chemistry. I was totally hopeless in the subject but Chemical Kinetics proved to be a silver lining for me. I again restored my lost confidence. You know the trick (formula).

Soon you'll encounter how I managed to cope up with Organic Chemistry.

Now I was confident in Physics, Maths, Physical and Inorganic Chemistry. Previously I had this notion  that in Inorganic Chemistry you just have to memorize things and also it has lots of exceptions and all but when I really started studying the subject, I realized the number of exceptions in Inorganic Chemistry are quite low compared to Organic Chemistry. Basically we have a same set of exceptions in complete P-block & S-block in most of cases. For Inorganic I would recommend you "IITian explains" a YouTube channel with fantastic tricks. I personally studied Salt Analysis from this channel and honestly this channel is the reason why I was so confident about Inorganic.

Now that I was prepared with Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Organic was the only challenge left. For Organic Chemistry I would like to thank my batchmate, her trick was really really effective. Finally I'm unfolding her million dollars trick. Write all the reactions in a diary, then sort the reactions which are based on mechanisms. Now write the mechanisms in another diary. And now in third diary write only the reactants with the total number (digit) of important points corresponding to it. Now read diary 3 and try to figure out how many questions you know before hand. For the questions that you don't remember look for them in the diary no. 1 along with revising important points. I guarantee you within 1 month you will gain a lot of confidence in Organic Chemistry by simply practicing this activity daily. You will be able to solve complete diary 3 without any help and the day you do Congratulate yourself 🎉🎊

#Bonus point:

For Organic you don't need to do ample amount of examples but you just need to cover all the reactions told by your professor. Because the more you search more you get lost in Organic. Be simple and Remember fundamentals.

That's all for today. Comment down your views below. That would mean a lot to me.Also you can ask your queries in comment section. If you find this blog helpful please share this with you friends and juniors.

Thankyou See ya :)

    1. I am very thankful to you that you love the ideas of my articles

As of best coaching there is no best coaching or best teacher the teacher to whom you can connect is the best for you like the teacher in our batch was best for us but for other batch their teacher was best so you cannot compare this. And also I don't have that much experience of every coaching but I can say Allen Jaipur (riddh-siddhi campus) was a best place for me.
and for NEET, AIMS, Olympiad, NTSE the tricks remain the same but I don't have much idea about them so couldn't write much about them.

Tricks and Tips

Hello people😊 Important Tricks: Here are some tricks to boost your preparations Chocolate Problem Trick This trick is very simple. All you have to do is whenever you attempt a question and get it wrong, simply note that question in a chit and fold it. Don't forget to look at the correct solution. After some time you will have a bunch of chits, shuffle them and pick one. Whatever question of whichever subject comes out, try solving that. If you get it right, mark a star on that chit, fold and reshuffle. Whenever you encounter that chit again, solve it again. If the answer is right, star the chit, but if it is wrong cut one star. Once you receive 5 stars remove that chit from your chocolate box and don't forget to have chocolate for yourself now! You will start this trick in greed but end up with habit of accuracy. Even I have practiced many questions this way and every time I encounter any chocolate question it gets correct automatically. Remember, this trick works only if yo...

How to make short notes?

Hello people😊 Now the very first and obvious question you all might be having right now is, What are Short notes? Is it just framing all the stuff in short sentences? Or writing a few lines about a chapter? Or just copying everything line by line? Ummm, sorry to say but none of them are truly true.  Actually short notes are the sum total of everything you cannot remember for long. In simple words, you should only include the information you know you won't be able to retain for a longer period of time.  Another very obvious question of course. How do you know what topics you won't be able to retain for a longer time?            Also should you make your own short notes or its okay to use someone else's notes?? See while studying, there might be certain things you know beforehand and quite probable you remember them well. There might be some things that skipped out of your mind but you recalled as you read them again. Now these thi...

#BONUS_TIP_No.2 How To Solve A Question in back exercise Correctly

Hello people😊 So as the title of the blog states, today I'm going to share with you all a very cool trick to solve questions in back exercise. This strategy is very simple.  Once you are done with solving examples, you are aware of a lot of tricks and methods to solve different kind of problems. Now you can go for attempting the questions without solutions. How to solve? First read the question properly, then try to identify have you solved an example similar to this problem or not? Probably you have. Now try to recall the steps that were there in examples and in case you are not able to recall the steps in examples, you should view that example once again or else you can proceed with the method as done in the example solving. Now let's proceed to Case 2: If you haven't solved that example before,  try to think what concept is used in the question. Do you know that concept? If yes, then try to solve that question with that concept. If you aren't able to solve then do...
